Author Kelton to be featured at Book Fest

If you haven’t read “The Time it Never Rained” or “The Good Old Boys” by Elmer Kelton, I highly recommend adding those titles to your “To Be Read” stack for Texas literature.

Kelton (1926 -2009) lived most of his life in San Angelo and won the Western Writers of America Spur Award seven times. We will be commemorating the centennial of this great writer at the 2026 Boerne Book Festival, where some of today’s authors will discuss his influence on their work. Author John Bradshaw will be joining us. His latest western novel is “The Blessing,” which is part of the Hewey Callaway series and continues the stories of some of the characters in “The Good Old Boys.”

Kathryn Jones is another author that will be featured on this panel. Her latest book is a biography, “Tall in the Saddle: The Life of Ben Johnson, Hollywood’s Real Cowboy.”

Rounding out this panel discussion is Spur award-winning author James Wade from Canyon Lake. His latest novel is “Narrow the Road,” and this will be Wade’s sixth consecutive appearance at the Boerne Book Festival. We consider ourselves very fortunate that he continues his participation in our festival.
