EDITOR’S NOTE: The Boerne Star meets twice monthly with Kendall County Health Inspector Steven Kotsatos and his staff, to bring us our newest feature, “Where Kendall County Eats: A Closer Look.”
Check-ins conducted by the Kendall County health inspector found most local restaurants operating at a high level of compliance this week, though a few were directed to take corrective action for a handful of violations.
Scores ranged from 90 to 97, with inspectors noting concerns involving improper cooling temperatures, possible contamination and unclean areas.
Hungry Horse Restaurant, 109 S. Saunders St.

WHERE KENDALL COUNTY EATS: A CLOSER LOOK menu features other classics such as meat loaf, pork chops, liver and onions, and chopped sirloin.
The recent inspection noted the following: A portion of chicken salad needed to be discarded due to improper cooling temperatures; shrimp salad that was also at the incorrect cooling temperature, which was corrected on-site; bare handling of food by employees, which was also corrected on-site; the walk-in cooler needed to be serviced to ensure cooling temperatures were in compliance; vegetables not stored properly; and a rusted shelf.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays, closed Monday This craft brewhouse features classics including Philly cheesesteaks, wings, chili cheese fries, Bavarian pretzels, and specialties such as the Hot-and-Spicy Burger. The beer menu has IPA options, ales, lagers, darker brews, ciders and a selection of red and white wines.
Inspectors observed the dishwasher was not heating properly nor applied chemicals as needed; and dishes were not inverted to avoid water buildup, which was corrected. The dishwasher ran for a second cycle to ensure the issues were fixed.

Tre Pizzeria, 103 N. Main St.
Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday This local pizzeria serves cast-iron flatbread pies, along with an assortment of pastas, salads, hoagies and desserts.
The inspection noted improper cooling temperatures in a few of the refrigerators; a sanitation bucket that needed more cleaning agent; and missing labels on several ingredients. Corrections were made at the time.
