Although Aug. 18 was the first day of school for most, it’s Oct. 6 that Crestmont Christian Preparatory School staff, students and parents have circled on their calendars.
Originally constructed as Boerne’s first schoolhouse, the old City Hall building at 402 E. Blanco Road will once again echo with youthful voices filling the hallways, classrooms and playground as the site of the preparatory school, said Amanda Howell, Crestmont director of operations.
“We are hoping to have students (in the building) on Oct. 6,” Howell said. “Everything is still on track for that, as far as getting all the necessary permits.”
Crestmont Prep opened the school year with 149 students, its largest enrollment in its 17-year history.
With pupil- teacher ratios of 14-to-1 for kindergarten through second grade, 16-to-1 for grades three through five, 18-to-1 for grades six through eight, and 20-to-1 for grades nine through 12, the school’s sixth grade is its largest, reaching capacity with 18 boys and girls.
The school currently holds classes in two Boerne area churches.
Grades kindergarten through five meet in St. John Lutheran Church while grades six through 12 are taught in classrooms at First United Methodist Church of Boerne.
A building dedication ceremony is Oct. 9 at the campus on Blanco.
Alyssa DeLosSantos has been the school’s principal for the past four years.
