WHERE KENDALL COUNTY EATS: A CLOSER LOOK
EDITOR’S NOTE: The Boerne Star meets twice monthly with Kendall County Health Inspector Steven Kotsatos and his staff, to bring us our newest feature, “Where Kendall County Eats: A Closer Look.”
Check-ins conducted by the Kendall County health inspector found most local fast-food chains operating at a high level of compliance this week, though a few were directed to take corrective action for a few violations.
Inspection scores ranged from 97 to 99, with inspectors noting concerns involving improper storage, rusted equipment and employees without beard guards.
McDonald’s, 43 U.S. 87 Hours: Open 24 hours all week McDonald’s offers a familiar mix of burgers, chicken sandwiches, nuggets, fries and breakfast favorites. The menu ranges from classics such as the Big Mac and Quarter Pounder to lighter snacks, Happy Meals, desserts and McCafé beverages.
A recent inspection noted the following: The ketchup dispenser had excess ketchup on the tip, which is considered a food-contact surface and must be properly cleaned to prevent bacteria exposure. In addition, a light buildup on one of the fountain-drink nozzles was addressed. Corrections were made on-site.

Wendy’s, 1242 S. Main St.
Hours: 10 a.m. to midnight, Sunday through Saturday Wendy’s menu centers on fresh, madeto- order burgers, chicken sandwiches, nuggets and its signature Frosty Dairy Dessert. Guests can also choose from salads, baked potatoes, breakfast items and a variety of “value-focused meal options,” according to the chain.
Inspectors said the ice was not properly covered, the ice scoop was not stored in its correct place, and a door gasket on the walk-in cooler was not sealed.

Taco Cabana, 433 W. Bandera Road Hours: 6 a.m.to midnight, Sunday through Saturday Taco Cabana serves Tex-Mex favorites with a menu featuring tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas and fresh tortillas. The restaurant also offers breakfast tacos, combination plates, salsas and margaritas.
The inspection noted the exterior of the walk-in cooler showed signs of damage and rust, which had been mentioned in a previous inspection. The manager has an open ticket awaiting maintenance. The inspector noted temperatures were still in compliance.

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, 1406 S. Main St.
Hours: 10 a.m. to midnight, Sunday through Saturday Raising Cane’s keeps things simple with a menu built almost entirely around its chicken fingers. Meals are typically paired with crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw and the chain’s well-known Cane’s Sauce.
The inspection observed several employees without beard guards, and others with exposed hair despite wearing caps.
