Boerne High and Boerne Champion squared off in water polo last week as they continue the second round of district play. The Chargers won both varsity matches last Thursday and then played in San Antonio in a round-robin event at Alamo Heights.
The BISD teams continue district play this Saturday at the Northside Natatorium. Champion faces Marshall and Clark, while the Greyhounds tangle with Brandeis and Health Careers before both close out district action on Oct. 3.
Varsity Boys
Champion defeated the Greyhounds, 16-5, and improved its district record to 7-0, while the Greyhounds slipped to 1-6. Champion is 19-4 overall after going 2-1 at Alamo Heights last weekend, while the Hounds are 1-10 overall.
The Chargers were up 9-0 in the first quarter and then outscored the Hounds in the second, 5-1, for the 14-1 lead at halftime. BHS won the second half, 4-2.
For the Chargers, Baron Stephens led the team with four goals, Jorge Almauguer added 3 goals, while EJ Altermatt and Baylor Slay tossed in two goals each.
For the Greyhounds, Zachary Pyle and Eliot Brown both scored two goals apiece and Jack Smith added a goal and came up with three steals.
Jackson Hankins, Knox Armstrong and Rodrigo Almauguer were all in goal for the Chargers, while Dustin Farar was in goal for the Hounds in last week’s match held in Boerne.
Varsity Girls
Champion won last week’s match against Boerne, 17-9. The Chargers improved to 5-2 in district and the BHS girls are 2-5 in district and 3-8 overall. Champion is 13-10 overall after going 2-1 at the Alamo Heights event last Saturday.
For the Greyhounds, Makenna Henson tallied four of their nine goals, while Ashlyn Jendrusch added two goals.
