SAN ANTONIO - The Boerne High and Boerne Champion girls water polo teams won their first-round playoff matches on Monday as Boerne ISD schools squared off against Southwest ISD schools at the SW Aquatics Center in San Antonio.
Boerne High defeated Southwest 25-8, in a historic victory for the Greyhounds because it was the first playoff win by a BHS water polo team in school history.
Boerne Champion topped the Titans of Southwest Legacy, 23-5, in a match the Chargers were winning at halftime, 18-0.
Both girls teams, along with the Champion boys, played Thursday in the second round at NEISD’s Davis Natatorium. The Boerne girls played Johnson at 1 p.m., after Johnson beat Canyon in the first round, 14-8.
The Champion boys had a first-round bye and played Johnson at 2:15 p.m., after Johnson defeated Canyon, while the Lady Chargers tangled with Pieper at 3:30 p.m., after the Warriors defeated Reagan, 13-11.

Before Monday’s playoff win, the Greyhounds faced Marshall to finish the regular season and won by a touchdown, 14-7, to close out district play at 4-6. After Monday’s win, the Lady Hounds are 6-9 overall counting their playoff win.
Against Southwest, BHS was up 7-0 in the first quarter and took a 17-2 lead into halftime after winning the second quarter, 10-2. The Hounds outscored the Dragons in the second half, 8-6.
Makenna Henson led the team with 9 goals, Bonnie Johnson added 5 goals and Lucia Peterson had 4 goals. Johnson and Ashlyn Jendrusch both recorded 4 assists and Jendrusch came up with 7 steals.
Carly Robertson and Brooke Sachs were both in goal for Boerne.
The BHS boys picked up a forfeit win over Marshall to close out the 2026 season at 2-12 overall and 2-8 in district.
Boerne Champion
Prior to Monday’s postseason victory, the Lady Chargers defeated Health Careers to close out the regular season and won 20-9 to finish district play at 7-3. They are 16-11 after Monday’s win over Southwest Legacy.
Champion was up 18-0 by halftime against the Titans and then the teams both recorded 5 goals apiece in the second half.
Sabrina Means led the team with 5 goals, Abigial Link and Lila Akin both finished with 3 assists and Bennett Rice came up with 3 steals.
Ava Mueller and Lilla Chelkowski were both in goal for the Chargers.
The Champion boys closed out the regular season with a 19-8 win over Health Careers and closed out district action at 10-0. They were 22-4 overall entering Thursday’s playoff match Landon Muenchow led the Chargers with 4 goals against Health Careers, EJ Altermatt dished out 4 assists and Jackson Hankins came up with 2 steals.
Hankins and Knox Armstrong were in goal for the Champion boys.
