THE BOOKWORM
Fall has arrived, and the Youth Department is buzzing with new programs, returning favorites and plenty of opportunities for families to come and connect.
In September we kicked off two new weekly programs: Maker Mondays and No-Tech Tuesdays.
On Mondays, families can drop into the Youth Activity Room and discover a new “make-and-take” activity each week, from origami and bracelet making to seasonal crafts. We’ll also have creative building activities and logic-based games to keep little hands and minds busy.
On Tuesdays, we’re taking a break from screens. Computers and iPads are powered down while families enjoy games, puzzles, coloring pages and other good old-fashioned activities together.
Please note that some Monday and Tuesday activities may contain small pieces that are not suitable for very young children.
Our weekly storytimes are also back in full swing. Bubbletime Bookworms meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. for our littlest library visitors, ages 0–2, while Rising Readers invites preschoolers ages 3–5 to join us Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. for stories, songs and fun.
Calling all little readers and animal lovers; every Tuesday from 3:30–4:30 p.m., children can practice their reading skills with our furry friends from Paws 4 Reading. We provide the canine companions and the books — you provide the readers.
Attention, gamers. Children ages 7 and up can join us every Thursday from 3:30–4:30 p.m. for Nintendo Switch Gaming. All equipment is provided, so just bring your game face.
Creativity continues on the first Saturday of each month with ReCrafted.org, now through April. This local organization brings a fun, hands-on craft for children of all ages. Join us on the Youth Department patio from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and see what they’re creating each month.
We’re also excited to continue our new partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. This fall, children will enjoy readings from the beloved “Hank the Cowdog” series by John Erickson, followed by hands-on activities and adventures in agriculture. These engaging sessions encourage problem-solving, curiosity and confidence while introducing children to the world of agriculture.
And don’t forget about Herff Storytime, held every second Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the vintage farmhouse at Herff Farm. Families can enjoy an engaging storytime, followed by a fun craft and a special treat. It’s a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning together.
We would like to thank the families that came out to our event Generations Synced, as well as our partners from the Boerne Area Historical Preservation Society, for providing some rare technology and toys for our families to explore.
With so much happening in the Youth Department, there’s always something new to discover. Be sure to check our website regularly for upcoming programs and events at boernelibrary.org.
We hope to see you and your family at the library this fall.
