And HCCA Cinema is born ...

CELEBRATING THE ARTS

HCCA Cinema committee’s stated mission, “We wanted an avant-garde film screening because of the out-ofthe- box filmmaking scene emerging in and around San Antonio, and spreading to the youth of Boerne, who want to break a mold.”

The HCCA Cinema committee invites readers to join us for tonight’s fall screening, “Orb Weaver.” Orb Weaver is the name chosen by HCCA Cinema’s film screening committee, featuring locally made, out-of-thebox, spooky and funky films.

Why ‘Orb Weaver’

During HCCA Cinema’s past traditional screenings, committee members have come across orb weavers here at the Agricultural Museum and Arts Center. Nearly every screening has featured webs that sprawl across the “storytelling tree,” a weaver blocking the lights, or one joining us during setup.

Sydney Archer, HCCArts marketing administrator, said, “We felt it only natural for the name of our avantgarde screening after these little guys, especially since it takes place during the fright-filled month of October.”

Gates open at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Oct. 10) on the Ag Museum grounds, 102 City Park Road in Boerne. Donations requested and appreciated as admission to the screening.

Our HCCA Cinema committee members are: * London Watterson is a mixed media artist based in San Antonio. A Coloradan raised overseas, he is actively inspired by the awesomeness of community and loves working alongside fellow artists on creative projects.

* Salma Valadez is an art history and criticism major in her final year at the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA). She is excited to join HCCA as an intern. HCCA’s commitment to creating a space for Boerne’s arts community to thrive aligns with her own passion for art education and making the arts accessible.

* Rowan Berberek is a senior at Champion High School, a practicing multimedia artist in the AP Art program, and a student in the graphic design practicum program, leading to an internship for HCCArts.

“I’ve learned so much!” Berberek stated at the workshop this past Friday.

* Nathan Castorena is a recent UTSA graduate. He’s worked on several film productions in the San Antonio and Boerne area, as well as his own that he wrote and directed in 2026. He has enjoyed organizing film showcase events, coordinating outreach and building community with HCCA Cinema.

* Juan Monroy. A Texas State graduate with a bachelor’s degree in theatre education, Monroy hails from Edna, and makes frequent trips to the Hill Country to help out the team. When not in Boerne helping to do the heavy lifting, he works as a fine arts teacher for Industrial ISD in Vanderbilt.

A special thank-you to our HCCArts educator, Kelly Leith, for teaching and guiding our youth as they built our new film screen stand; Silver Screen Sponsor, Before Your Eyes Interiors; and Kelani Yogurt for being onsight for screenings.

HCCArts is a 501(c)(3) non profit, and happily gives HCCA Cinema this opportunity to learn and create, to keep art alive in our town through our youth, and to keep everyone celebrating all forms of art with us.
