SAN ANTONIO – Champion's great water polo season came to an end Saturday in the boys state championship match at Davis Natatorium.
The Chargers played Westlake and fell to the Chaps, 15-8, to close out the 2026 season at 26-4.
Champion has won the boys regional title the last five seasons and earned three silver and two bronze team medals at state during that stretch.

State Semifinals on Friday
The Boerne Champion boys water polo team defeated League City Clear Creek, 17-12, on Friday.
The Chargers never trailed in Friday’s match against the two-time defending state champs. Champion was up 4-3 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored the Wildcats in the second, 8-2, and held a 12-5 win at halftime.
It was pretty much even in the second half as Clear Creek scored 7 goals and the Chargers tallied 5 goals as they focused more on killing clock than on scoring in the fourth quarter.
There was a measure of revenge in Friday’s win for Champion since Clear Creek beat the Chargers at state last year by the same score of 17-12 and also defeated the Chargers earlier in the season in a tournament, 12-11.
