Theater’s executive director taking a bow

Crowley steps down after 25 years with BCT

After nine years as executive director of the Boerne Community Theatre, Christine Crowley is stepping out of the spotlight Dec. 31.

Through the years, Crowley has been at many networking events in Boerne, making others aware of BCT’s programs and the role the theater plays in the community.

“I have enjoyed my nine years at the helm; I absolutely love this job,” Crowley said. “I believe we made some progress in becoming recognized as an asset in the community. I, of course, cannot take all the credit. We have a great team of staff, board members and volunteers.”

Crowley, who spent a total of 25 years with BCT, said she will continue to act as an ambassador for the venue and manage the box office.

“ We thank Christine immensely for her hard work and dedication to BCT,” said Robin Cunningham, president of the Governing Board. “We had a very challenging few years during the COVID pandemic; she certainly was instrumental in helping BCT get through those times successfully.”

While balancing a job as a librarian at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, Crowley took center stage as an actor and a director.

She first appeared in “Incorruptible,” as a nun who cursed in Latin, in 2003 in the old theater space on North Main Street.

She later directed a production of the same show in the current theater at 907 E. Blanco Road.

She last appeared in “Ripcord” in 2019, and directed “Red Herring,” “California Suite” and “The Odd Couple.” She first joined the BCT board in 2003.

Growing up in a community- theater family, she began acting at age 11 as a Spring Breeze in a play about Jack Frost. She studied drama at the University of Massachusetts and Texas State University.

Crowley and her husband, Ron McInnis, live at San Geronimo Airpark with The Demon, an elderly, grouchy Chihuahua.

Interviews were conducted in October and the executive board will announce the future executive director in November.

A retirement gathering for Crowley will be held sometime in December.
