Pieper rallies past Lady Chargers

Champion is still trying to put together back-to-back victories in 26-5A volleyball action in a tough district.

After winning their league opener, the Chargers dropped two straight, and after beating Wagner last Tuesday at home, Champion was at Pieper last Friday but couldn’t win consecutive matches in 26-5A.

The Lady Chargers had a good start at Pieper and took the first set, 25-20, but then Pieper rallied to win the next three games, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20.

Champion slips to 2-3 in district and 18-13 overall. They were at Smithson Valley Tuesday and host Kerrville Tivy Friday to close out the first round of 26-5A action.

Ella Coleman had a big match with 16 kills, Cassidy Breuer added 7 kills, Raylynn Pitts finished with 6 kills, Azteca Crawford tallied 18 assists, Ryan Michalec recorded 10 assists, Samantha Calderon and Crawford dropped in 1 ace apiece, Brielle Boothe finished with 11 digs, Coleman recorded 9 digs, while Pitts, Crawford and Calderon all came up with 4 digs.

Taylor Fenton led the team in blocks with 2 and Pitts registered 1.5 blocks.
