Water polo, team tennis start playoffs this week

SAN ANTONIO – The Boerne Champion water polo teams closed out the regular season last Saturday and are scheduled to open the playoffs this week, while the tennis teams from Champion and BHS also begin postseason play this week.

Water polo

The Chargers closed out regular-season play last Saturday and have a first-round bye going into the playoffs.

The Champion boys beat Clark last weekend, 23-12, at the Northside Aquatics Center to improve to 20-3 overall and finish district with a perfect record at 8-0.

The Lady Chargers lost to Clark 11-9 to end the regular season at 11-12 and 4-4 in district.

Both Champion teams have a bye in the opening round and are scheduled to play Thursday at Northside in the second round, likely against Brennan, with the girls starting at 4 p.m. and the boys at 5:15 p.m.

Team Tennis

The BHS tennis team opened the postseason Monday at Blossom and defeated Pleasanton, 19-0, to improve to 12-3 this year.

BHS plays the winner of the West Columbia – Port Lavaca Calhoun match up scheduled for Tuesday. The Hounds get the winner of that match Thursday in Beeville.

Boerne Champion opened the first round Tuesday at home against Leander Glenn and a Charger win pits them against the winner of the MacArthur – Medina Valley match up in the second round later this week.
