Cats return to action and visit Karnes City
Comfort High is back in action this Friday after having a bye last week.
The Bobcats visit Karnes City for a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
Comfort was playing some pretty good football heading into its off week and won three straight.
The Bobcats started 0-3 but closed out non-district with a 55-15 win over Brackett.
After that, Comfort opened district play with a 43-16 victory at Nixon- Smiley, and then prior to their break, the Bobcats shutout Natalia at home, 24-0.
Even though Comfort pitched a shutout against the Mustangs, Bobcats coach Jay Rieken said he saw a few things they needed to work on.
Rieken felt his offensive line wasn’t blowing the Mustangs off the block like he wanted. The Bobcats also had two touchdowns called back – one on offense and one on defense – because of penalties.
“I’m happy with the win but there are a few things we need to work on during the break,” he said.
Rieken said they hoped to get a few more players back after the two-week break and added that they’ll have an easy week before getting back into a normal routine this week.
Comfort’s three-game win streak has them at 3-3 overall and 2-0 in District 15-3A DII.
Karnes City is struggling but they don’t give up a lot of points. The Badgers are 1-6 overall and 1-2 in district.
They haven’t had their bye yet and are off next Friday.
Karnes City beat South San West Campus, 26-18, they lost to Nixon-Smiley, 26-14, and lost to Natalia, 14-7.
Comfort and Karnes City have both played Nixon-Smiley and Natalia, with the Bobcats beating both of those teams and the Badgers dropping both of those games.
Comfort and Poth are the only two teams in the district undefeated heading into this weekend. They’ll meet Oct. 27 at Poth.
Comfort has four games left in the regular season, and after facing Karnes City Friday, they’ll host Dilley, visit Poth and close out the regular season Nov. 3 at home against South San West Campus.
