CELEBRATING THE ARTS
Join the Artists of Gallery 195 for an evening of art and artist appreciation at an Art and Wine reception, today, Saturday, October 14, from 4-7p.m.
Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and a glass of wine and be introduced to the gallery’s newest Artist, Riki Yarbrough, and reacquaint yourself with the “aromatic” floral paintings of Amy Hillenbrand. The gallery’s address is 195 S. Main St., Boerne. Call 830-3319904 for details, or go to: www. gallery195.com.
Yarbrough describes stories and truths through multiple layers of acrylic and paper, words and patterns, all absorbing rich color. She tempts the viewers to join the treasure hunt amid the lively chaos.
Riki chooses subjects that are viewed as uncomfortable on the surface, but invites you to unearth the truth and order found beneath. Through her visual storytelling, she communicates principles that serve as anchors to our souls.
Weaving lines, text, bold color, pattern and texture all play a part in her work. Riki’s technique is to layer acrylic paint with elements of collage, creating a story of interest, one that invites a closer look to find a beautiful treasure incorporated within.
Her often-chosen subjects are the concealed richness in rugged landscapes, nature, daily life, and Scripture.
“Every piece is a sojourn, a temporary stay in something I’m working through or have come to understand,” Yarbrough said. “In each layer, I choose to yield my expectation and trust hope will come.”
The first reaction to an oversized Amy Hillenbrand floral is to take in a deep breath, allowing for olfactory senses to capture the scent of the flower depicted.
Amy paints with oils, capturing light and shadow in soothing hues that move us through the piece and evoke a sense of complete calmness.
She began her career as an interior designer where she developed an eye for beauty and how things worked together. While living in the Midwest, she owned a commercial architectural and interior design firm.
But as her life unfolded, Amy was called to a new creative expression-- oil painting. Her current contemporary realist style is influenced by her experience as a designer and fueled by her innate talents.
Positive energy, harmonious color palettes, and appealing composition are fused together to create optimistic works of art.
“When you connect with something beautiful, you open up parts of yourself that have been neglected and forgotten,” Hillenbrand said, “parts that have been crying out for years to be heard and healed.
Amy’s work is an expression of beautiful things that can help to heal us. Each piece is designed to inspire and create wonder, and shared in a place that will serve as a reminder of who we are and what we may personally need.
