Boerne High picked up another district win in girls basketball Friday night when the Lady Greyhounds defeated Navarro at home, 45-30.
BHS improves to 3-1 in 27-4A and 22-3 overall. They visited Canyon Lake Tuesday and then close out the first round of district with a big game Friday at Greyhound Gym against Fredericksburg.
Last Friday’s game turned into a free-throw contest with 36 free throws awarded to the two teams combined, with a lot of touch calls, with Navarro getting the benefit of most of the whistles after they went to the line 22 times compared to 14 for Boerne.
The Lady Hounds won the first quarter 16-5 and then took an 8-point lead into the break after they outscored the Lady Panthers in the second, 13-10.
Boerne had a great start to the second half and held Navarro without a point for the first seven minutes. BHS ended up winning the quarter 13-6 with all 6 of the Panthers points coming in the final minute.
When the third period ended Boerne was up 41-24 and maintained a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter. Things slowed down in the final stanza with only 10 combined points, 6 for Navarro and 4 for BHS.
Meredith McCloud led the Lady Hounds with 16 points, Averi Aaron added 13, Abby Smith netted 9, Savannah Salinas tallied 3, while Jenna Ruede 2 and Addison Palluch both finished with 2 points.
