Geneva notches first win of the year

After dropping its season opener last week, the Geneva School of Boerne returned to action this week in search of their first win.

The Eagles got it before the home crowd after they defeated La Pryor, 35-16.

Geneva is 1-1 and visits Sabinal Friday.

The Eagles scored just 19 seconds into the game after Caleb Quitadamo connected with Wyatt Bruss for a 71-yard touchdown pass and it was 7-0 early.

Later in the quarter, Quitadamo found Brady Chandler on a 3-yard TD pass and the lead jumped to 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.

Geneva made it 21-0 after Quitadamo hooked up with Chandler again, this time on a 48-yard scoring strike with 11:20 left in the second quarter.

La Pryor finally got on the board midway through the second and the Bulldogs converted their 2-point try to make it 21-8.

Early in the second half, Bruss intercepted a pass and took it to the house on a 48-yard Pick-6 and the Geneva lead was 27-8 after a missed extra point.

La Pryor answered late in the third with a 6-yard TD run, and again, converted a 2-point try and the score was 27-16.

Geneva responded with what turned out to be the final score of the night. The Eagles capped a drive with a 35-yard scamper into the end zone by Quitadamo and then went for two.

Quitadamo found Chandler on the 2-point conversion and Geneva was up 35-16 with 5:34 left.

Neither team scored after that.

Quitadamo completed 11 of 25 passes for 268 yards and 3 TDs and also ran 8 times for 60 yards and a score. He added a 32-yard kickoff return for 360 total yards in the game.

Bruss finished with 4 catches for 151 yards and a TD. He also intercepted 2 passes, including the 48-yard Pick-6. He also added 38 yards on kickoff return to account for 237 total yards in the game.
