In honor of the Boerne Greyhounds celebrating 100 years of football in 2024, the Boerne Star will go back through its archives and publish something in every weekend’s issue during the regular season relating to the Boerne High football team from over the years. This week’s look back happened before the start of the 1971 football season. The Greyhound named their four captains, Jeff Fincke, Sammy Champion, Mike Vogt and Bobby Racer. Of course, Sammy is Sam Champion, who had the newest high school in BISD named after him, while Vogt and Fincke are still active in Boerne.
