100 years of Boerne Greyhound football

100 years of Boerne Greyhound football

In honor of the Boerne Greyhounds celebrating 100 years of football in 2024, the Boerne Star will go back through its archives and publish something in every weekend’s issue during the regular season relating to the Boerne High football team from over the years. This week, the 1963 Boerne High football team beat Somerset in Seguin on Nov. 22, 1963, for only their second playoff win in school history. That was Boerne’s final postseason victory for 39 years. Boerne’s next playoff win didn’t occur until they defeated Jefferson in 2002 at the Alamodome. BHS’s playoff win in 1963 over Somerset happened on the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Note the story above the football story that appeared in the Nov. 28, 1963, issue of the Star, it details how Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the new president.
