BOERNE– A crowd of Boerne citizens comprised of students, parents and Boerne Independent School District and city officials gathered to witness the ribbon cutting for a new entrance arch at the East gate of the Boerne City Cemetery on Friday, May 19, 2023.

This was the culmination of a threeyear project by students of Boerne ISD’s award-winning welding program. The program, under the direction of Ag Mechanics/Welding Instructor, Dorman Vick, has won multiple state awards and skills competitions. It has even gained national recognition and completed projects for the US Department of Agriculture.

The arch is made of steel and carries the inscription, “Ruhe in Frieden”, “Rest in Peace”, in honor of Boerne’s German heritage. The centerpiece is a cross which was selected by vote after the students submitted multiple designs. The winning design was by Ian McCloud.
