State amendments pass

Texas and Kendall County voters overwhelmingly approved the two constitutional amendments that appeared on the May 7 ballot. In both cases, a majority vote was needed for passage.

Texas and Kendall County voters overwhelmingly approved the two constitutional amendments that appeared on the May 7 ballot. In both cases, a majority vote was needed for passage.

Proposition 1, authorizing the state legislature to reduce the property tax limit for school maintenance and operations taxes imposed on the homesteads of elderly or disabled residents to reflect any tax rate reduction enacted by law from the preceding tax year, passed statewide with 86.9 percent of the vote.

Proposition 2, raising Texas’ homestead exemption from $25,000 to $40,000 for school district property taxes, was approved with 84.8 percent of the vote.
