Garry Alan Spellman

Garry Alan Spellman

December 3, 1953 – May 25, 2022

We are heartbroken to share the news that Garry Alan Spellman passed away May 25, 2022, after a long battle with COPD. Garry was born on December 3, 1953, in Long Beach, California.

He loved to act and as a young boy played the part of “Dewey” alongside Ron Howard and Robert Preston in “The Music Man.”

He also loved music, was a talented song writer and played guitar, bass, tuba and several other instruments throughout his life. He played in numerous bands from polka to jazz to rock and roll but his specialty was acoustic guitar. While living in Louisiana he recorded an album at Sea Saint Studio of his band “Swamp Gas.”

At the same time, he was a full time machinist and raising his family. He created parts for the space shuttle and Sino Swearingen aircraft and was a master at his craft.

Garry moved to Boerne in 1982 and built his own home for his family. He had a knack for being able to create things. We all benefited from his cooking talents and his delicious smoked meats. He loved playing guitar and offered the blessing of his music at several churches.

Garry is proceeded in death by his mother, Betty Crawford, and stepfather, Stewart Crawford. He leaves behind his wife, Lorna Spellman; daughter Nicole Bailey with her wife, Dee Bailey; son Bill Spellman with his wife, Sarah Spellman; and grandchildren Julia, Samuel and Carolina.

He will be remembered for his beautiful music, unique humor, and his never-ending dedication to his family.

A celebration of life will be held June 11, 2022, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Hearts Home Acoustics in Boerne for friends and family to gather and reflect on the gifts that he shared with the world.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to the Save the Music Foundation or any other nonprofit dedicated to music education programs: https://bit.ly/3M1Md7i.
