County DA’s office prepares for extra load
The Kendall County District Attorney’s office is getting a reboot in preparation for the introduction of a county court at law, but it’s still unclear when the new court will take shape. However, Kendall County District Attorney Nicole Bishop has brought on two new prosecutors to ensure all cases are covered once there are two court rooms to try cases.

Twenty-nine new laws in effect in January
More than 20 new state laws went into effect as Texans rang in the New Year with another half-dozen to go on the books on Jan. 18, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Those laws include a ban on transgender athletes competing on sports teams that reflect their gender identity and penalties for illegally restraining dogs.

Couple found dead in home
Tragedy struck a family at home on New Year’s Eve Friday night as 47-yearold Jason Evans allegedly shot and killed his wife, Emily Fulton Evans, while the couple’s six children were inside the home in the 100 block of Ridge Place.

County OKs Lily Ranch variances
Several residents spoke before the Kendall County commissioners during their meeting last week, pressing for the denial of the Lily Ranch development’s 80-acre second phase variances. In the end, commissioners approved the variances but they made it clear this wasn’t a development they were fond of and that this was just an initial step in a longer and more detailed process.
