Francis ‘Frank’ Ward

Francis Peter “Frank” Ward was born on Oct. 26, 1939, in Newark, New Jersey, and passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on Sept. 21, 2025. Frank never knew a stranger as many people can attest to.

Frank had several illustrious careers during his life. He retired as a police officer from New Jersey law enforcement after 25 years of service in various townships. He also retired from the Bexar County DA’s Office where he was a lead investigator in the White-Collar Crime Division. He later served the U.S. State Department fulfilling a mission with the United Nations International Police in Kosovo for two years, and then as a mentor to the Secretary of the Interior in Afghanistan for four years.

Frank proudly served his country. He first served in the United States Marine Corps for five years. He then served in the United States Army Reserves, Military Police for 21 years retiring as a Master Sergeant.

Frank is survived by the following people: His wife, Dana Ward. His children; son Andrew Ward (Karen), son Mike Ward (Nicole), daughter Donna Faust (Don), son Joesph Ward (Melissa), and step-son Wes Hughes. His siblings Joe Ward (Beth), and Marguerite Hacik. Frank was also blessed with 11grandchildren whom he adored and loved dearly, four great-grandsons whom he loved and was so excited about, many family members, and many friends who were like family.

The family requests — No Flowers.

Frank preferred donations be made to one of his three favorite charities which are St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital, or Tunnel for Towers.

Funeral Mass is Oct. 2, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi, 4201 De Zavala Road, San Antonio. Interment is 1:15 p.m. at Shelter 2, Fort Sam Houston Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road. Celebration, 2-5 p.m. at Wetmore Beach House, 12329 Wetmore Road.
