Chargers, Greyhounds do well at district swim and dive meet

SAN ANTONIO – Both the Boerne High and Boerne Champion swim and dive teams participated in last Friday’s district swim meet at the Southwest ISD Aquatics Center.

The top six finishers in each event advance to the regional meet set for Feb. 7-8 at the same location on the southwest side of San Antonio and both the Greyhounds and Chargers had a lot of athletes advance.

After regionals is the finale, the 5A state meet in Austin set for Feb. 21-22.

Champion made it a clean sweep at the 28-5A meet after both the Charger boys and girls finished in first place and had the boys and girls Athletes of the Meet, while Champion head coach Scott Slay was named the Girls Coach of the Meet.

Charger Kate Canales was named the girls Athlete of the Meet and Bexon Harrison was selected as the boys Athlete of the Meet as the most point earners.

The Champion boys tallied 192 points to beat second-place New Braunfels by more than 100 points after the Unicorns scored 89 points. The Greyhounds were third with 73 points, followed by Southwest (63), Southwest Legacy (52) and John Jay (49).

On the girls side, the Lady Chargers rolled to 212 points, the Lady Greyhounds were second with 110, followed by New Braunfels (91), Southwest Legacy (42), Southwest (30) and John Jay (18).

The swim district looks a lot different than the rest of the other sports and is even different than football.
