Boerne baseball holds off stubborn Mules,

4-2 Alamo Heights put up a pretty good fight Tuesday night when the Mules baseball team hosted Boerne High.

The Mules played well on their home field in San Antonio and outhit the Hounds, 4-2. Alamo Heights only allowed 1 earned run but committed 5 errors and the Greyhounds took advantage of the fielding miscues and won, 4-2.

Boerne is 7-3 in district and 15-4 overall. They hosted the Mules Friday and play a non-district game at La Vernia on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game in San Antonio was tight the whole way through and the Mules were up 2-1 at one point.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning and then Alamo Heights plated a run in the bottom of the third for the 2-1 edge.

BHS tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fourth thanks to a couple of Mules errors.

Another Alamo Heights miscue to open the top of the fifth helped the Greyhounds score another run. Brooks Perez singled and brought in Colton Shaver from second and BHS was up 3-2.

The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the top of the seventh after Brooks Perez walked, moved to second on a passed ball and advanced to third on a sac bunt by Walker Hill. Perez later scored on a wild pitch, and it was 4-2.

Brooks Perez and Jackson Grimes accounted for the two Boerne hits. Brooks also walked 3 times and scored twice, while Hudson McNew and Shaver both scored as well.

Campbell Jackson threw 106 pitches in 6.2 innings of work. Jackson scattered 3 hits, gave up 2 runs, 4 walks and struck out 5.

McNew came in to close and only gave up 1 hit, no walks and sat down a batter.
