Champion competes at district track event

CONVERSE – Both Boerne Champion Varsity track and field teams posted top-5 finishes at last week’s District 26-5A meet held at Rutledge Stadium.

The Champion boys were 2nd with 99 points, while in the girls standings, the Lady Chargers were 5th with 71 points.

The top 6 score points and the top-4 finishers advance to the Area meet that was held this past Wednesday at New Braunfels Canyon. The top 4 at Area head to regionals set for April 18-19 at Heroes Stadium.

Varsity Boys

Charlie Houck won the 3200 with a time of 9:34 and William Coover came in 6th after posting a 10:08.

Houck also won the 1600 by recording a 4:23.50, Luis Tovar finished 3rd in the race at 4:26 and Caleb Dehart was 6th with a 4:32.

Dehart took 1st in the 800 in a time of 1:57, just ahead of teammate Tovar who came in 2nd with a 1:58.

Jamarri Bowie claimed gold in the 400 after running a 48.50, and Bowie came in 2nd in the 200 with a time of 22.50, while Brogan Dempsey finished 6th in the 200 after clocking in at 23.36.

Champion’s 4x100 of Juan Nava, Cal Isley, Brogan Dempsey and Zach Garcia teamed up for a time of 42.60 to finish 4th.

In field events, Landon Kolacny won the pole vault after clearing 14-6 and Blake Stehling finished 2nd in the shot put with a toss of 50-9.50.

Stehling threw the discus 148-11 for 3rd and Christopher Buchanan was 5th in the high jump after he went 6-0.

Varsity Girls

Rebecca Bezerra finished 4th in the 3200 after posting an 11:26, Payton Kidder was 4th in the 800-meter run after running a 2:17 and Kidder also came in 4th in the 1600 with a time of 5:20.

Ella Bachman placed 6th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.22, Juliana Syroney finished 3rd in the 100 dash after posting a 12.78 and Michelle Cerna crossed the finish line in a time of 1:00 in the 400.

In relay events, the 4x100 of Holly Winkenhower, Kinsley Graff, Juliana Syroney and Madison Meinke placed 2nd with a time of 48.87, while the 4x400 relay of Addison Davis, Amora Cummings, Mikayla Green and Michelle Cerna came in 4th after they combined for a 4:08.

In field events, Hannah Burkett threw the discus 101-2 for 3rd and Cameron Wampler was 6th with a toss of 98-2.

Lorena Barreiro-Bidot won the shot put with a heave of 33-9.75 to earn gold and Burkett placed 3rd after registering a 33-1.25, while Amora Cummings was 6th in the long jump with a leap of 16-8.

JV

In JV, the Lady Chargers were 2nd with 153 points and the boys were 3rd with 89 points.
