The Boerne High softball team closed out the regular season Tuesday at home and almost put together one of its roller coaster rallies but came up short by a run.
BHS was trailing 6-2 at one point and scored 8 runs in its last four at bats, including 7 in the last two frames, but lost to the Unicorns, 11-10.

Prior to Thursday, the Lady Hounds played at Pieper and lost to the Warriors on Tuesday.
Pieper 16, Boerne 4
When the week started, the Lady Hounds needed a win at Pieper on Tuesday to have a chance at a playoff spot going into Thursday, but lost to the Warriors, 16-4, in four and a half innings.
Ava Renteria started off the game with a triple and Breanna Krause doubled and the Lady Hounds were up 1-0 but Pieper answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning and never trailed from there.
The Warriors started to pull away in the second with 7 runs and built a 9-1 lead.
Renteria smacked a solo home run in the third to make it 9-2 but the Warriors got the run back in the bottom of the frame and it was 10-2 before Pieper busted it open with 6 runs in the fourth for the 16-2 advantage.
Boerne wasn’t going down without a fight and tried to rally in the top of the fifth. Lizzy Thornton doubled to bring in Brooklynn Thomason and then Thomason later scored on a Leni Caldwell ground out and it was 16-4 but the rally ended there and so did the game since the Warriors were up by more than 10 runs.
Boerne only had 5 hits in the game but 4 went for extra bases after Renteria homered and tripled and scored twice, while Krause and Thornton both doubled. Kenley Thomasson added a single.
Jesseanna Aguirre went 3.1 innings in the circle and Cerissa Nasis closed out the game from there.
