to regional track meet

NEW BRAUNFELS – Boerne High competed at last week’s Area track and field meet where the athletes had a chance to advance to regionals.

The Greyhounds had four athletes qualify in six events for this weekend’s Region IV-5A meet at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.

The top two at regionals automatically advance to state, while the third-place finishers have a chance at a wildcard spot.

Varsity Girls

In the 5A girls standings, the Lady Hounds tallied 20 points for 10th place.

Prisca Igbo had a great meet and finished 2nd in both hurdling events. The junior took 2nd in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.82 for 8 points and was also 2nd in the 300 hurdles after posting a 46.31 to earn 16 of their 20 team points.

Brei Johnson came in 6th in the 300 hurdles to score a team point with her time of 48.36, Ella Schram came in 5th in the shot put with a toss of 34-7 for 2 more points and Bella Pettet placed 6th in the long jump with a distance of 16-8.25 for another team point.

Varsity Boys

The Boerne boys were 11th in the final standings with 24 points and all 24 came in distance events.

Aaron Garcia and Valor Menn went 3-4 in the 3200 after Garcia posted a 9:29.10 and Menn clocked in at 9:35.44 for a combined 10 points.

Garcia also placed 2nd in the 1600 with a time of 4:29.22 for 8 more points, while Barrett Crofut came in 3rd in the 800 recording a 1:55.12 for 6 more points to round out the scoring.
