Partin hits 2 home runs, Renteria adds another as rally comes up short vs. New Braunfels
Late rallies have been a trademark for the 2025 Boerne High softball team and sometimes they worked and other times they didn’t.
The Lady Greyhounds tried one of those rallies last Thursday in their regular-season finale when they hosted New Braunfels.
Boerne was down 6-2 at one point vs the Unicorns and closed out the game by scoring 7 runs in its last two at bats, but the Unicorns kept paced and scored enough late in the game to hold off the Hounds, 11-10.
BHS ends the year at 5-11 in district and 10-10 overall.
New Braunfels went up 5-0 before the Lady Hounds could get on the board in the second inning. Lizzy Thornton walked and then a Riley Partin home run brought in Partin and courtesy runner Cerissa Nasis to make it 5-2.
Both teams scored single runs over the next two frames, and it was 6-3. Boerne scored when Maddie Vasquez brought in Ava Renteria with a ground out after Renteria doubled.
After that, the fireworks started in the sixth as New Braunfels scored 5 and BHS tallied 7 runs. After the Unicorns tallied 3 in the sixth for the 9-3 lead, the Lady Hounds answered with 4 runs.
Renteria hit a solo homer in the sixth to start off the bottom of the sixth. Four singles, an error and an RBI ground out helped BHS tally 3 more runs and it was 9-7 going into the seventh.
New Braunfels drove in a couple of runs in the seventh to pad its lead at 11-7 going into the bottom of the inning.
Partin had the big hit in the frame, a 2-run blast out of the park for her second dinger of the game, and it was 11-10, but there were two outs and nobody on.
Ryleigh Hastings walked to put the tying run on base, and the winning run was at the plate, but Unicorns pitcher Addison Barbosa got the next BHS batter to ground out to end it.
Boerne finished with 9 hits in the game, three of them homers, two from Riley Partin and another from Ava Renteria, who also hit a double.
Jesseanna Aguirre went all 7 innings in the circle for the Lady Hounds and threw 115 pitches.
