The Comfort baseball team closes out the regular season this week with a pair of games against Llano.
Comfort has already clinched a playoff spot and they will enter the 3A-DII bracket as the No. 2 seed once the playoffs start, so they’re set.
Still, the Bobcats want to finish the regular season on a high note and sweep the Yellowjackets.
Comfort took the first game over Llano Tuesday at home, 9-5, and were looking for the sweep Friday on the road.
The Bobcats are 10-11 overall and moved to third in their district at 5-4, just ahead of Llano, which is 4-5.
Llano held the lead twice on Tuesday but a 7-run fourth inning gave the Bobcats the final momentum push they needed.
The Yellowjackets were up 1-0 in the first, but Comfort tallied 2 runs in the third for the 2-1 lead. Llano answered with 2 runs in the fourth frame and pulled ahead, 3-2.
Llano’s lead didn’t hold for long after the Bobcats fired back with 7 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Comfort knocked out 5 singles, used a hit batter and a walk to score its 7 runs.
At that point, the Bobcats only had one out, but Llano finally ended the inning by retiring the next two batters, however Comfort held a 9-3 lead and never trailed from there.
The Yellowjackets plated 2 runs in the top of the fifth and trimmed the lead to 9-5, but didn’t score after that and that’s where it stayed.
Comfort finished with 10 hits, all singles. Noah Bohnert went 4 for 4 and scored a run and picked up an RBI, Mason Matt tallied 2 hits and scored 2 runs, Gunner Carpenter and Owen Schulze collected 2 RBI each and Mason Matter crossed home plate twice.
Tucker Rust went 4.2 innings on the mound and scattered 6 hits, gave up 5 earned runs, 4 walks and struck out 2.
Matter closed it out and only yielded 1 hit and 1 walk, no runs and fanned 2.
