BHS at regional track as Garcia qualifies for state

SAN ANTONIO – Boerne High sent four athletes to compete in six events at last weekend’s Region IV-5A track and field meet at Heroes Stadium.

All four Greyhound athletes competed in running events and one of them, Aaron Garcia, managed to advance to the 5A state meet set for next weekend in Austin.

Garcia ran in two events, the 3200 and 1600, and finished second in the 3200 to qualify for state and will be the lone Hound at this year’s meet.

In the team standings, the Boerne High boys scored 12 points to tie for 15th place, while the Lady Hounds netted 4 points to finish tied for 23rd.

Garcia, a junior, posted a 9:32.95 in the 3200 for 2nd and picked up 8 team points, while Garcia also finished 5th in the 1600 with a time of 4:26.98 and 2 more points for 10 total.

Freshman Valor Menn placed 6th in the 3200 after recording a 9:47.19 and Barrett Crofut raced in the 800 and came in 6th with a time of 1:50.10 to earn one team point apiece.

Varsity Girls

Prisca Igbo raced in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles at regionals. She didn’t advance past the preliminaries in the 300 hurdles but clocked in at 14.71 in the 100 hurdles for 4th place and accounted for all 4 of the team’s points.
