Comfort athletes wrap up track season at regionals

Comfort High wrapped up its 2025 track and field season at the recent Region I-3A meet held at Abilene Christian University.

Comfort sent several athletes but none of them advanced out of regionals and into state, although Molly Gowan just missed out after she was third in one of the field events.

The top two finishers automatically qualify for state and the third-place finisher has a chance at a wildcard, but Gowan didn’t advance.

Varsity Girls

The Comfort girls tallied 7 points at regionals and they were all earned by Gowan. The Deer finished tied for 20th in the team standings thanks to Gowan.

Gowan placed 3rd in the high jump after she cleared the bar at 5-2 for 6 of those points.

Talk about a game of inches, the wildcard that advanced to state from Texarkana Liberty-Eylau made it after she cleared 5-3, so Gowan missed it by an inch.

Gowan also placed 6th in the 300 hurdles for another team point with a time of 48.82. She also qualified for regionals in the 100 hurdles, but didn’t get out of prelims.

Victoria Kessova finished 7th in the 400 in 1: 00.20 and just missed out on scoring a point, while Ashley Padilla ran in the prelims and clocked in at 1:00.35.

Hope Van Geffen, Ashley Padilla, Jordan Judkins and Victoria Kessova competed in the 4x400 at regionals and posted a 4:17.25 in prelims.

Varsity Boys

The boys had two entries at regionals, the 4x400 and another in field events.

The 4x400 of Chance Carpenter, Jaydin Steward, Hunter Lackey and Carter Pape clocked in at 3:41.27 but didn’t advance out of prelims, while Aiden Weyel competed in the shot put.
