Betty Morris Duncan, 100, was born on Sept. 12, 1924, to Frank and Violet Morris of Long Branch, New Jersey. During her teens she became a Christian and joined the First Baptist Church of Asbury Park, New Jersey.

She graduated from Neptune High School in 1942 and after working for two years as a secretary for the U.S. Signal Corps during World War II, she attended Philadelphia School of the Bible (now Cairn University) and graduated in 1947. She then attended Gordon College, graduating in 1951 with a master’s degree.

In 1952, Betty traveled to Japan as a missionary with the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society (now World Venture). There she met fellow missionary William Duncan, married on Dec. 15,1957, and had four children, all born in Japan.

William retired in 1975, and the family moved to New Jersey for three years and then to Phoenix, Arizona, where Betty worked at the Arizona State Land Department. They moved to Boerne, Texas, in 2005, where William died four months later.

Betty has been attending Trinity Presbyterian Church for the last 16 years, enjoying her grandchildren and serving in the community wherever she could. She also made several trips back to Japan, her last being in 2013 at the age of 89.

In her final days, she was cared for by loving family and friends and died April 28, 2025, in her daughter’s home in Boerne.

Betty loved to serve wherever she went and was known for her skill at Scrabble, her heartfelt prayers and her beautiful smile.

She is survived by her two sons, Philip Duncan and Paul (Laura) Duncan; two daughters, Rachel Sanelli and Carol (Rob) Rugloski; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. May 7, 2025, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 31 Ammann Road in Boerne. All who knew her are welcome.
