A total of 13 Boerne ISD soccer players – 8 from Boerne High and 5 from Boerne Champion – were recognized as 26-5A All-District selections.

One of the Greyhounds received a superlative and was the only BISD soccer player to receive that type of award after Boerne High freshman Kate McGowan was named Newcomer of the Year.

Also for the Lady Greyhounds, Boerne senior Kinsley Sawyer and senior Sophia Harper were voted to the 26-5A first team.

Senior Avery Ukeiley and junior Ocean Valenciano were named to the 26-5A second team.

BHS sophomore Emma Edison, junior Catherine Hiner and sophomore Gretchen Nash were all named honorable mention.

For the Chargers, senior Carsyn Bradley was named to the 26-5A first team and was the only Champion player listed on the first team.

Junior Jayme Harrell was voted to the 26-5A second team and was the only Charger listed on the second squad.

Also for Champion, junior Meredith Plank, junior Lily Alejo and sophomore Macy O’Dell were all named honorable mention.

It was an exciting district race in girls 26-5A soccer with some playoff spots not clinched until the final night of the regular season.

It also marked the first time in more than a decade that the Chargers and Greyhounds had been in the same district and competed against each other.

Boerne High went 9-6-1 in district and 14-9-1 overall, while Champion finished at 8-6-2 in 26-5A and 9-9-2 overall.

The two schools played, and the Chargers won the first game, 2-0, at BISD Stadium and in the second match, the schools tied at 1-1 at Charger Field after the Greyhounds scored a late goal to knot it up.

With a win and a tie against BHS, the Lady Chargers have still never lost to the Lady Greyhounds.

As far as the playoffs are concerned, it was the Boerne girls that made it, but the Lady Hounds had a tough draw in the opening round.

BHS drew Cedar Park to begin the postseason and lost 6-0, but there’s no shame in losing to the Lady Timberwolves who went on to win the 5A-DII state title.

Cedar Park shut out its first five opponents by a combined score of 22-0. They didn’t give up a goal until they played for the state title against Wakeland, but they still won that match, 3-1.
