Titus: A Sauvignon Blanc to cool, refresh

Hello everyone, and greetings from Wine Central!

With the temperatures rising as they have been during the past few weeks, the perennial search for refreshing and thirst-quenching wines is on again — Sauvignon Blanc to the rescue!

Here’s a grape variety that’s versatile and offers a wide array of different flavor palettes for your palate; depending among other things, on its provenance. From grassy to citrusy, from basic to rich and rounded, there’s a Sauvignon Blanc for every taste.

The one I’d like to talk about today is produced from a family-owned 50 acres vineyard situated in the heart of the St. Helena AVA. Some of their more illustrious neighbors include wine “nobility” such as Cuvaison and Beaulieu, right along the Silverado Trail and close to the foot of Howell Mountain.

Another name you may recognize is Charles Krug. In fact, the deed records dating back to 1841 indicate the Titus vineyard was once the property of Mr. Charles Krug himself. The first harvest under the tutelage of the Titus family came in 1969.

What about the wine though? As mentioned above, Sauvignon Blanc can give off so many different sorts of flavors and aromas.

The one from Titus has been said to offer an expressive and fruity juice with a multi-faceted smorgasbord of aromas including and ranging from Meyer lemon, orange blossom, lemongrass, Buddha’s hand, pear, mandarin, stone fruit and kaffir lime.

Here’s a wine that will pair excellently with shellfish, which is perfect because it is poised to be featured on the inaugural wine list of a new seafood-centric restaurant (Stout’s @ The Shore); opening this month at Cinnamon Shore in Port Aransas.

Wine or restaurant-related questions (including questions regarding where else this wine is available), can be addressed directly to me at: Olivierthewineguy@ gmail.com.

Until next time … Happy Memorial Day!
