Velasquez helps squad win USTA Texas Junior Tennis Team championship

Boerne’s Ari I. Velasquez is playing USTA Junior Tennis and is on a squad named the Aces 10s.

The Aces 10s won all season against San Antonio teams in the age group 10&U green dot ball. After taking first in a tournament in San Antonio at the end of April, they went to play at the USTA Texas Junior Tennis Team competition on May 17-18 in Abilene where they competed against the best junior tennis teams from Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, Amarillo, Abilene and Laredo.

Velasquez won all his matches in singles and doubles and the team won all their matches in the first round of the state competition. They advanced to the semifinals and played against Serve Squad, a team from Amarillo, and advanced to the championship game against the Dallas team.

Velasquez won his doubles match 4-1, while his singles match was the last to play and he also won that one, 4-3, scoring the last winning point that made them the USTA Texas Junior Tennis Team champions by a final score of 19-18.

Velasquez is a thirdgrade student at Boerne ISD’s Viola Wilson Elementary.
