After seven years on the force, Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department K9 Buddy retired from serving the town in many searches, arrests and seizures, as well as public service to schools and community organizations.

May 15 marked Buddy’s end of duty with Fair Oaks Office David Magness, his handler throughout his service to the department.

Fair Oaks Police logs show Buddy — whose favorite toys are Kong rubber toys and tennis balls — took part in 134 deployments, 85 seizure incidents and 77 arrests over his time with Magness and Fair Oaks Ranch.

“After years of fierce courage, locating evidence, safeguarding officers and protecting our community, Buddy is hanging up his badge. Alongside Officer Magness, he showed us what loyalty and heart look like on every shift,” the Fair Oaks Police Department said in a social media post.

Magness assures that Buddy’s retirement “will involve lots of play time, healthy snacks and a stress-free life” with the Magness family, where he will live out his remaining years.

The department is engaged in securing another service K9, with Magness preparing to serve as its handler as well.
