THE BOOKWORM

This past month, the Patrick Heath Public Library had several fun cultural and historical events lined up. First was Preserving Your Family History, where folks could learn and ask questions about storing and digitizing family histories at home.

The second was a fun program with Yaping Zhang, a scholar of Chinese culture, who taught the basics of Chinese calligraphy as well as introduced her work and studies of Chinese food and history.

One of the most fulfilling projects this past month was the Cinco de Mayo flower wall and history presentation. Working with our Outreach Coordinator Leah Mayo and Library Associate (and Spanish outreach librarian) Erica Metz to introduce the true history of Cinco de Mayo along with a fun, easy craft was so fun One of the best moments from this week-long project was seeing how many of the teens were interested not only in making paper flowers but in learning the history as well.

The Patrick Heath Public Library is kicking off our summer reading program, Color Our World. We have some fun activities leading up to summer, with a Mr. Twisty storytelling party for the youth department at 10 a.m. Monday, June 2, as well as a Chalk Art competition for all ages beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7.

Both summer kick-off events will feature their own activities and a colorful start to summer. Use the QR code to see the Color Our World summer calendar.

Beat the Heat at the library this summer with some fun indoor, exercise and meditation activities: Tai Chi every Friday at 10 a.m.; yoga at 6 p.m. on the first Friday of every month; and Sound Meditation at 7 p.m. every fourth Wednesday.
