On the first Saturday in June of each year, everyone in Texas can fish recreationally without licenses or endorsements.
This opportunity exists so that more people can try fishing for the first time.
Anglers can enjoy free fishing recreationally on any public waterway, including rivers, creeks, lakes, bays and state parks.
Free fishing in state parks applies to fishing in rivers and creeks, from the bank or pier, and wading in coastal state parks. You may also be able to fish from a boat on lakes or points fully enclosed in a state park.
While free fishing applies to Texas State Parks, park entry fees may still apply, and while anglers don’t need a license, all other fishing regulations, such as length and bag limits, still apply.
