The latest class selected for induction into the Boerne ISD Athletic Hall of Honor has been announced, and there is a definite tennis theme involved.

All of this year’s inductees played tennis at either Boerne High or Boerne Champion and were coached by current Chargers coach Joey Cantu.

The Class of 2025 will officially be inducted at a luncheon on Friday, Oct. 17, at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, 11:30 a.m. For tickets or more information, call (830) 357-2130.

CLASS OF 2025 GRANT GANDY AND CAMERON DAVIS (BOERNE HIGH)

Gandy and Davis won the UIL 4A boys doubles state championship in the spring of 2008, delivering Boerne’s first state title in boys’ tennis with clutch performances throughout the playoffs.

The spring of 2008 was the final year for Boerne High to be the lone public high school in Boerne. The following year, the BHS campus was shut down, and all BISD students attended Boerne Champion for 200809 school year. Boerne High then reopened for the 200910 school year.

JARED FELLOWS AND MARK GORHAM (BOERNE CHAMPION)

Fellows and Gorham captured the 2010 UIL 4A boys doubles state championship, for the first gold medal in spring tennis at the school.

Fellows and Gorham were also part of fall team tennis program that had a lot of success at the state level as well.

EMILY GORHAM CALTRIDER (BOERNE HIGH)

Boerne ISD’s first fourtime state tennis qualifier, Emily Gorham Caltrider, competed at state each year from 2003-2006.

Gorham Caltrider made it to state in three different categories over her four-year high school career and qualified in girls doubles, girls singles, and mixed doubles.

Gorham Caltrider continued her career at the University of Kansas.

TEAMS OF DISTINCTION

After Boerne High was closed for remodeling after the 2007-08 school year, Boerne Champion opened right down the street in the fall of 2008 and for three straight seasons, the Chargers tennis program won the regional championship.

Team tennis is played in the fall and for the first three seasons after the school opened, Champion played at the state tennis tournament and won two silver and one bronze during that time.

The 2008 team completed the year at 17-4 and finished second in the state to end the season. They were district and regional champs and were the first Boerne ISD tennis team to advance to state.

The 2009 squad went 17-5 overall and placed third in the state. They were also district and regional champs.

The 2010 team posted a record of 21-4 and placed second at state to earn silver medals. They were district and regional champions as well.

This three-year stretch of regional titles and state tournament appearances helped establish Boerne and Champion as state tennis powerhouses.
