Perez decommits from University of Houston, headed to Duke for baseball

Boerne High graduate Brooks Perez went from being a Cougar to a Blue Devil in about a week’s time.

Perez had signed a national letter of intent with the University of Houston during his senior year at Boerne High, but on July 2, he announced on X that he had changed his mind.

About a week later, Perez posted that he would instead be attending Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

“I am decommitting from the University of Houston for baseball and will be reopening my recruitment,” Perez posted on X, which received 34,000 views. “I look forward to finding the best fit for myself both academically and athletically. Excited for what the future holds.”

On July 11, Perez posted that he would attend Duke and play for the Blue Devils in the Atlantic Coast Conference. U of H is in the Big 12 Conference.

“So grateful for this dream of an opportunity,” Perez wrote on X, which drew 18,000 views. “Go Blue Devils!”

Perez wrapped up his senior season as a Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association 5A All-State Elite player and was selected to play in the 5A-6A All-State Game held June 15, in Round Rock at Dell Diamond.

Perez finished his senior year with a .519 batting average and had a .614 on base percentage. He knocked out 14 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs, drove in 22 runs and scored 34 runs.
