THE BOOKWORM
Does anyone know the collective noun for a group of liars?
Whatever it is, we have a pack of rascally liars coming in for a rousing good time on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. for the seventh annual Kendall County Liars Contest, which will be held in the library’s community room.
If you don’t know what a liars contest is, think of the tall tales you used to hear in school. We’ll have some of the best storytellers from around the state competing to be named the “biggest” or “best” liar in Kendall County and in the process, entertain patrons.
On hand will be three veteran liars that have won first prize in years past: Donna Christopher Ingham, Bernadette Nason and Larry Thompson. In addition, Warren Holleman from Houston will be joining us. Holleman’s storytelling credits include “The Moth” story hour on National Public Radio.
Fort Worth native Gary Whitaker will be part of the contest this year. Whitaker has a year-round storytelling business which includes “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” and Victorian Christmas storytelling.
Cowboy poet Charles Williams of Fort Worth will also be on the program.
The Liars Contest is free, family-friendly and open to the public. Please bring your friends and beat the August heat. You can learn more about most of the above storytellers by visiting the Tejas Storytelling website: www. tejasstorytelling.com.
