County maintains search operations

BOERNE — Search and recovery efforts continue in Kendall County, with state and area rescue and volunteer teams arriving to assist, while others depart after weeks of round-theclock assistance. Officials with the Kendall County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) said residents will continue to notice an increased presence of first responders across the county, “here to help search and bring closure to families still waiting,” the OEM said in a weekend press release.

The number of missing individuals dropped to three over the weekend as well. A great number of previously presumed missing individuals have been contacted or reached out to let authorities know of their location.

Search teams from the Dallas- Fort Worth area have set up at Voss Middle School. Many people have seen a letter from the Boerne Independent School District on social media.

“These responders — our firefighters, medics, law enforcement and emergency personnel — don’t just show up, they step up. They are the heartbeat of what it means to serve,” the OEM release stated.

The OEM issued a list of reminders for Boerne and Kendall County residents to abide by, as the searches continue.

• Ground all personal drones. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place. Personal drones can interfere with air operations and put lives at risk.

• The countywide burn ban is still in effect, which means no outdoor burning of any kind.

• Do not disturb debris piles. Some are being re-searched due to recent rain; moving or sifting through them could hinder or compromise recovery efforts. These areas are being handled by highly trained crews.

• Do not conduct independent searches. If you are not part of an organized response team, please stay out of search areas, the OEM requested. This work is dangerous, it stated, and uncoordinated efforts can interfere with official missions.

• Stay out of all waterways. Currents remain dangerous, water quality is poor and debris poses a serious hazard. No swimming.
