The Tapatio Men’s Golf Association held a tournament held June 27-28 called the Tapatio Cup that was similar to the Ryder Cup. Two teams of 36 golfers each (Blue Team and Red Team) play 2-man matches against other two-man teams, with points awarded for each match. The team with the highest point total wins the Tapatio Cup title.
This year Mark Wilson and Pat Childress were team captains for the Blue and Red teams respectively. As captains who played, Wilson and Childress then selected players from a pool of 70 other registered golfers to play on one of the teams. This year the competition was very close, with the Red team taking the overall honor of winning the Tapatio Cup by a final point total of 343 – 338.
