Sauvignon Blanc: Crisp, clean and cool for summer relief

In service of the quest for ‘delectaffordable’ wine

THE WINE GUY

It’s hot — again! Not so surprising, really, since we are after all, in the middle of summer in South Central Texas. We all know that it’s hot; complaining about it or even just talking about it isn’t going to do much to alleviate that fact.

What might help, however, would be a cool glass of crisp Sauvignon Blanc.

There are multitudes of quality Sauvignon Blancs available and here’s one that I think is worth investigating ... and ingesting: Titus Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2023 Napa Valley (97.50 % Sauvignon Blanc, 2.50% Viognier). This is a wine that offers the perfect balance of bright acidity to quench your thirst while providing a slew of vibrant aromas of Asian Pear, plumeria and citrus along with a hint of tropical pineapple on the nose.

Along with the above-mentioned acidity, your palate will enjoy its clean and crisp finish in which you will discern additional notes of citrus pith, melon and makrut lime.

This wine’s lovely freshness is partially accomplished due to the subtle quality of its smooth aging process, achieved via use of neutral French oak barrels.

Harvested toward the end of August and early September 2023, the grapes were immediately pressed in whole clusters before undergoing fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

Pursuant to that process, the juice was racked and transferred into the used oak barrels for a duration of three months; after which it was racked again and transferred back to tanks for blending and cold stabilization in advance of bottling.

If you are planning a visit to Port Aransas this summer, you can enjoy this wine which is featured on the list of the recently opened restaurant “Stout’s @ The Shore,” located at the Cinnamon Shore resort complex. Reservations are strongly recommended.
