Area sports team gearing up for 2025

Next year is here – at least when it comes to high school athletics.

While fall sports such as volleyball, football and cross country are practicing this week, other sports such as team tennis and water polo are playing real matches this week.

BISD tennis

The Boerne ISD tennis teams will both be in action at home to start their 2025 fall seasons.

On Wednesday, Champion hosts Friendswood at the Charger courts to start the new season, 4 p.m.

Friendswood is staying in town that night and will then play the Greyhounds at the BHS courts on Thursday morning, 9 a.m.

After that, both Boerne ISD teams are scheduled to play in the Northside ISD tournament this weekend, Friday and Saturday Aug. 8-9.

Water polo

The Champion water polo team opens play Thursday at the Heights Kick Off tournament in San Antonio.

The girls play at 8 a.m. and the boys are in the water at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Their schedule after that depends on whether they win or lose.

The Boerne High water polo program, just in its second year, will be in the water this weekend as well.

The BHS boys are scheduled to play two matches Saturday at the Northside Natatorium, 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., while the girls are supposed to play Saturday at 2 p.m. and again at 4 p.m., also at Northside.

Volleyball

Area volleyball teams will take part in scrimmages this week as well and begin the regular season next week. The Boerne ISD teams will host scrimmages on Saturday, while the Lady Chargers scrimmage Friday at Davenport and the Boerne High girls are at Judson on Friday.

Both scrimmages are scheduled for all day on Friday and Saturday.

Geneva School of Boerne hosts Marion in a scrimmage on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and then hosts TMI and FEAST on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The Comfort volleyball team hosts a scrimmage Friday at 10 a.m. and then scrimmages at Wimberley Saturday morning.

The Comfort Deer begin their 2025 regular season on Monday at Marble Falls, with the varsity scheduled to play at noon.

The other area volleyball teams open their regular season later next week.
