Hill Country Council for the Arts’ “Art AfterHours” classes provide a perfect evening for creatives, curious minds and anyone looking to slow down, get inspired and make something beautiful by hand.
Whether you are a seasoned artist or just stepping into the world of craft, these workshops offer a relaxing and rewarding experience — rooted in art history, full of creativity and open to our extended Hill Country community.
Gilded Decoupage, Aug. 19. Come enjoy an evening of creativity and charm as we explore the vintage art of gilded decoupage, where functional meets beautiful.
In this hands-on class, you will learn how to transform everyday objects into stunning decorative pieces using layered paper imagery and gilded accents. Rooted in a tradition that dates back to the 12th century, decoupage brings art into daily life.
You can make your own modern version with a touch of shimmer, whether you are new to art or you just want a fun night out — this is the perfect way to unwind, try something different and leave with a piece that is both personal and practical.
Thermoplastic Play, Aug. 26. Produce a bead cap from thermoplastic. Form the plastic with heat and shape jigs into colorful beads or bead caps.
Color with colored pencils, alcohol markers or embossing powder. String together on eye pins into an intricate sculptural piece for earrings or necklaces.
Shibori with Indigo Dye, Sept. 2. Join us in producing the ancient Japanese art of Shibori resist dyeing.
You will explore traditional techniques like nui (stitching), itajime (folding and clamping), and arashi (pole-wrapping) — each offering a unique way to create bold, beautiful patterns on fabric.
This ancient art is complemented by the intriguing use of natural indigo to dye natural fiber cloth. Leave with your own hand-dyed creation, ready to wear, frame or gift.
Classes are held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in The Classroom at The AgriCultural Museum and Arts Center, 102 City Park Road in Boerne. All supplies are included with class fee. Class size is limited; a discount is offered with the investment of an annual HCCArts membership.
