Chargers rally to topple Tivy Antlers in five games

TheLadyAntlerswereup2-1, but the Lady Chargers rallied to claim the final two games to notch a tough road win.

Champion prevailed 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-15, 15-13. The Chargers are 8-1 overall and start 26-5A play at 1-0. They’ll play in the Pieper tourney this weekend.

Chargers coach Kelly McDaniel credits her team with not panicking after falling behind 2-1 and sticking to the game plan.

“Our girls know that it’s always going to be a hard match when we play in Tivy’s gym, but they found a way to recover after those two sets they lost,” she said. “They bounced back by staying true to the game plan and going back to our quick tempo sets and brought even more energy to finish the fourth and fifth sets.”

Champion took the first set but dropped the next two and fell behind 2-1 in the match. The Chargers showed grit and managed to win the final two to close it out.

The Chargers had four players in double-digit kills after Taylor Fenton tallied 19 of them, Finley Weikle added 14 kills, while Cassidy Breuer and Brielle Boothe both netted 12 kills.

Breuer dropped in 3 aces and Brady Cooksey had 2 aces, while Cooksey tallied 53 assists. Fenton recorded 3 blocks and Lileyan Rounds came up with 2 blocks.

Hannah Perez recorded 29 digs, while Breuer, Aleah Ramirez and Boothe all recorded 11 digs.
