The Boerne Champion water polo teams were entered in the Texas Cup last weekend.
Chargers coach Scott Slay called it “the hardest tournament in high school water polo in Texas.”
Both Champion squads held their own against top talent and the girls were second in the gold division, while the Charger boys, down two starters, finished sixth in the platinum division. The Champion boys are 10-5 overall and the Lady Chargers are 11-5. Both will open district play this weekend. They’ll face Brandeis and Marshall this Saturday at the Northside ISD Aquatics Center.
Varsity Boys
The Champion boys went 3-3 at the tourney and on the first day beat Guyer, 20-2, and lost to Hebron, 19-11.
Champion defeated Keller, 14-12, and lost to Southlake Carroll, 12-5.
On the final day, the Chargers beat Dallas Jesuit, 15-13 and lost to Foster, 16-12.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Chargers went 4-3 at the tourney and lost to Guyer, 9-7, and Hebron, 12-4, on the first day.
Champion bounced back on Friday to defeat Keller, 14-12, and knock off Rockwall- Heath, 15-7, before winning vs. Rock Hill, 5-0.
On the final day, the Lady Chargers again beat Rockwall-Heath, 8-1, and then closed it out with a shootout loss to Prosper, 7-6. Prosper won the shootout 3-2.
