Greyhounds kick off 2025 cross country season

Boerne High officially opened its 2025 running season last Saturday at the Westlake Chaparral XC Invitational.

The season continues for the BHS teams that are scheduled to run Saturday at the FEAST Patriot Invitational at Retama Park.

Varsity Boys

At the Westlake meet, the BHS boys, which were without their No. 3 runner, were 5th with 184 points in the field of 33 full teams and 267 runners.

Lake Travis won the race (54), Austin Bowie (116) was 2nd and C.C. Veterans Memorial (144) took 3rd, while Champion (153) was 4th.

Boerne’s Aaron Garcia had a strong race and finished 4th overall in a time of 15:39, Brayden Scott also posted a top 10 finish and was 8th in 16:05, Barrett Crofut came in 20th in 16:29, Wiley Davis clocked in at 17:33 for 73rd and Chase Machicek recorded a 17:43 for 79th.

Jacen Esparza ran an 18:52 for 136th and William Olivio completed the course in 19:28 for 145th. Stefan Bain (19:40) and Levi Mendoza (19:48) rounded out the squad.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Hounds finished 9th with 234 points in the field of 28 teams and 225 runners.

Smithson Valley (71) won the meet, followed by Austin Bowie (112) and Boerne Champion (139).

Freshman Presley Merkens led the Lady Hounds and was 15th in 19:22, Kelsey Farar came in 36th with a 20:31, Penelope Kirk finished three spots back in 39th at 20:37, Ansley Schiller was 63rd in 21:13 and Abigail Jendrusch placed 81st in 21:38.

Ainsley Purcell clocked in at 21:54 for 93rd and Sophia King recorded a 22:10 for 103rd, while Sophia Karageorge (23:10), Lilly Cox (23:55) and Kiera Sawyer (25:36) rounded out the team.
